ADHD Evaluation & Treatment for Adults
ADHD in adults doesn’t always look like a “hyper kid who can’t sit still.”
It can show up as:
- Constant distractibility or “brain jumping channels”
- Trouble starting or finishing tasks
- Procrastination and last-minute scrambling
- Forgetfulness and missed deadlines
- Impulsive decisions
- Feeling restless inside even when you’re sitting still
- Emotional ups and downs and feeling easily overwhelmed
For many adults, it feels like they’ve been “almost keeping up” for years by working twice as hard as everyone else. Often, ADHD has been there since childhood but was missed because grades were okay, you were quiet, or you learned to compensate.
Recognizing and treating ADHD in adulthood can be life-changing with helping with focus, organization, follow-through, and emotional regulation, so you can use your strengths instead of constantly fighting your brain.
Our Approach to Adult ADHD at Phoenix Psychiatry & Wellness
We don’t do quick checklists and automatic stimulants.
We start with a thorough evaluation, including:
- How symptoms have shown up at school, work, and home
- How attention, organization, and impulsivity have affected your life
- Screening for anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep issues, and medical factors
- Review of your medical history, medications, and substance use
- Your strengths, interests, and what’s already working
Then we build a treatment plan that may include:
- Medication management when appropriate (stimulant and non-stimulant options, including non-controlled meds when possible)
- Supplements that can be safely added, when appropriate
- Lifestyle and behavioral strategies for time management and organization
- Support around sleep, nutrition, movement, mindfulness, and stress
- Referrals for therapy or ADHD coaching when extra support would help
Because visits are via telehealth, we get a real-world view of your life and work with you to create changes that are actually doable.
Thoughtful, Not “Pill-Mill” ADHD Care
ADHD is real and deserves real care—but it’s also true that in some places it’s being overdiagnosed and stimulants are being handed out with very little assessment.
That is not how we practice.
At Phoenix Psychiatry & Wellness, we:
- Rule out other causes of inattention (anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep, medical issues)
- Talk honestly about the pros and cons of stimulants, including tolerance, dependence, misuse, and withdrawal
- Use the lowest effective dose and avoid increasing unless there’s a clear reason
- Help you navigate medication shortages by exploring alternatives, brand vs generic options, and prior authorizations when needed
- Emphasize that medication is one tool, not the only one
We also help you lean into the positives of an ADHD brain such as creativity, big-picture thinking, and hyperfocus while building structure around planning, time, and follow-through.
To be clear:
If you’re only looking for ADHD meds and aren’t open to any non-medication strategies, this is probably not the right practice for you. Phoenix Psychiatry & Wellness is not a pill mill.
We work best with people who are willing to look at the whole picture: meds, mind, body, and daily habits.
What to Expect
For ADHD care, you can expect:
- 60–90 minute initial evaluations so we’re not rushing your story
- Conversations about diet, exercise, sleep, and nervous system regulation
- Exploration of non-medication supports like therapy or coaching when helpful
- Attention to your personality, life story, and any trauma or chronic stress
- A thoughtful review of medication options, including:
- Non-controlled medications when appropriate
- Extended-release vs immediate-release
- Being upfront about which meds may be harder to find
Our goal isn’t to turn you into a “perfectly productive robot.”
It’s to help you understand how your brain works, reduce chaos and shame, and build a life where your strengths have room to shine.
If you’re ready for ADHD care that’s comprehensive, integrative, and not just about a prescription, we’d be honored to work with you.
