Insomnia

Insomnia isn’t just “not sleeping enough.” It can look like:

  • Taking forever to fall asleep
  • Waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep
  • Waking up too early, long before your alarm
  • Feeling “tired but wired”—exhausted but unable to downshift
  • Dreading bedtime because you’re afraid not sleeping will ruin the next day

Over time, this can feed anxiety and low mood, and anxiety and low mood can make insomnia worse. It becomes a loop that’s hard to break without support.

How we help at Phoenix Psychiatry & Wellness

Insomnia and sleep anxiety are some of the most common issues we see.

Our first step is to understand what’s driving your sleep difficulties, which may include:

  • Stress, anxiety, or racing thoughts
  • Depression or burnout
  • Hormonal changes, pain, or medical conditions
  • Medications, caffeine, alcohol, or substance use
  • Irregular schedules, shift work, or caregiving demands

From there, we work together to build a plan that may include:

  • Careful use of medication when appropriate (and support with tapering off long-term sleep meds if that’s a goal)
  • Behavioral and mind–body strategies drawn from evidence-based approaches for insomnia (like CBT-I principles)
  • Sleep routine and environment changes that are actually realistic for your life
  • Evaluation of supplements that can be safely added to your current medications, when appropriate, to support more restful sleep
  • Coordination with your PCP or a sleep specialist if we suspect issues like sleep apnea that need further evaluation

We’ll move at a pace that feels manageable, adjusting the plan based on what’s helping—not forcing you into a rigid schedule that doesn’t fit your reality. You don’t have to dread bedtime

With the right support, it’s possible to:

  • Fall asleep faster and stay asleep more consistently
  • Feel more rested and clear-headed during the day
  • Worry less about sleep and trust your body more
  • Break the cycle of “I can’t sleep → I’m anxious → I can’t sleep more”

All visits are virtual for adults in Florida, with early-morning, evening, and some Saturday appointments—so you don’t have to turn your schedule upside down just to get help.

If you’re tired of dreading the night and dragging through the day, we can work together to help your nervous system relearn how to rest.

What we don’t do

Phoenix Psychiatry & Wellness focuses on insomnia and sleep-related anxiety as part of your overall mental health care.

We do not diagnose or treat complex sleep disorders like narcolepsy or primary sleep apnea, but if your symptoms point in that direction, we can help you connect with a sleep specialist while still supporting your mood and anxiety around sleep.
